I won a meal for two at the Animas River Cafe. What a treat! My friend and I had lunch on a perfect summer day. The service was attentive, atmosphere transporting, and food scrumptous. We especially enjoyed the house chips, house dressing, and mud pie. Really, all the food we tried was outstanding. We don't frequent Durango restaurants often, because we live in Pagosa and may not have tried this terrific place without having won the meal. So glad we had the fortune and now will make this a go to lunch spot as often as we can.

Private party? Closed?

My wife and I rode our bikes along the river trail to specifically park our bikes on the bike rack and enjoy a meal overlooking the river. Imagine our surprise when we walked up the stairs and were told it was closed for a private reception. No signs, no notice, nothing. The only employee we ran into yelled "look out lady" as she bulldozed her way by with a beverage cart. They may have one of the best patios, but the service and attitude is crap!
