Wow what a place!!!
by Dusty
We had heard about the Steamworks from friends but never expected it to be so awesome. First, the place was packed with what looked like the whole town. Even with a line out the door, I was able to get a table for my family in just about the time it took to enjoy my first of three amazing beers.
My kids loved the place (and that is saying a ton as one is 9 and the other a never happy 15). The menu was huge, eclectic and a surprise for anyone familiar with traditional "pub" fare. For a starter we split some buffalo sliders that came with pancetta, fontina cheese, and a lemon-garlic aioli. One for each of us and they sure were juicy morsels! For dinner the kids split a Cajun boil (got to see it to believe it) and had a blast getting their hands messy cracking crab and peeling shrimp. It is a little spicy! The wife and I split an Argentinean style steak with jalapeno-mashers. It was cooked to order and the Chimichurri sauce was a delight. The service was friendly and prompt. The beers (the 3rd Eye Pale, a Munich Helles, and their Steam Engine lager) were all clean, polished, and well crafted. I cannot wait to come back in the off-season (if they ever have one in Durango) and try some of their darker brews and see what the chef comes up with for a winter menu.
Truly Horrible Service
by Wade
A guest and I dined at Steamworks 8/7/10. We received, not just at the hostess stand, but also at the bar, the worst service I have EVER received in a Durango restaurant. And I am a local. Ignored by the bartender, hostess screwed up our seating preference and THEN argued with us.
Never going back.
Delicous Food, But Go In Hungry!
by Anna
To be honest, I have avoided eating at the Steamworks previously because I was put-off by the peanut shells all over the floor. It just looked unclean to me. But today the hubs and I were doing some business in Durango and he wanted to give it a try.
I am glad we did. The food was wonderful! I had the Colorado Cheese Steak (chicken) and tried the Jalepeno Cheddar Mashers. The meal was a hot one for sure but it was really good. My husband had the Mediterranean Salad and he said it was wonderful too. My only complaint about the food was, they give you way too much, (most people would not complain about getting so much food). I think we may have to share a meal next time so we don't waste so much.
The service was friendly and pleasant, although it seemed to take a long time for the food to be prepared. Perhaps the kitchen was just busy changing from Lunch to Dinner (it was about 3:30pm).
Now that I know how good the food tastes, I think I will be able to overlook the peanut shells on the floor :) I will wholeheartedly recommend the Steamworks Brewing Company to my friends.
